How to Improve Your Twitter for Business – Part II

May 13, 2016  |   Marketing, Social Media

Do you use Twitter as one of the marketing tools of your business? Have you lately drop off your business Twitter just because you have no idea how to improve it?  These three tips might be what you need.

The Final 3!

You have read the first 2 basic principles of how to improve Twitter for business. Here are the final 3!

4. Talk Less, Listen More. This is one of the fundamentals when it comes to social media principles. Your goal should not just be to put out tweets, it should also be to communicate with your audience. You are not aiming for a monologue but a dialogue. It’s amazing how many people send out tweets in the name of selling a product or service, but when you reply to their message they go silent.

If you have chosen to sell on Twitter and are ignoring the replies you are getting, you should close shop and go home. Pay attention to your DM columns and your replies once you have tweeted and be sure to respond relevantly and in a timely fashion.

The result will be increased customer satisfaction, a better reputation and you may find that you get all the hype that you have been hoping for. However, if all you do is send out tweets to try and sell stuff and you never check or respond to replies, you can be sure that all you are is a Twitter spammer.

5. Sell Using Twitter: Do Not Sell. What I mean is that there are 2 ways of selling using Twitter. You can use the usual selling angle of spamming people with your sales pitch, and you can be sure that the results will be disastrous, or you can become creative with your selling. Your audience can tell when you have thought through your sales tweet and when you are simply spamming them.

Your sales pitch does not need to sound like an all-out sales pitch, it should sound like you are offering them a service or product that will really benefit them. Note that it is not the same as false advertising so that people can click on your link. You should be transparent because nobody enjoys trickery. What you need to do is make sure that the audience feels that what you are selling them is worthwhile and that they need to click on your link.

You do not want to trick anyone, and you must out of necessity believe that your product will be beneficial to your customer. Without this belief, then whether you have Twitter or not, the business you are working so hard to build will indeed fail. However, if you believe that what you are offering is beneficial to them and you are passionate about your product or service offering, then using 120 characters, you will be able to communicate that passion to your audience.

6. Hear Your Audience’s Response. Not only should you listen to what they are saying by monitoring your DMs and replies and indeed responding to them in a relevant and timely fashion, but you should pay close attention to the feedback you are getting. Use Tweetdeck to search your company name and see what people are saying about you. Then contact all these people in response to their tweets so that they know you are a responsive business.

The idea is to have a social presence and to engage your audience. It is not just about pushing your sales on social media. It is important for people to know that you are present on social media and that you are listening to what they are saying not just selling your product and talking.

It is important that you impress your audience by how timely you are with your response and you will be amazed at how quickly they will spread the word about your services and products or about your company. As you hear what your audience is saying and respond accordingly, you will have satisfied customers who are happy with your brand. You will have a true presence on social media – the kind that generates a buzz, and eventually, you will get additional customers and many more interested parties. This is what you are working to achieve, right?

Use Common Sense and Follow the Rules

Finally, social media and indeed Twitter is not your secret route to amazing financial breakthrough.  Anyone who says this to you will be lying. You still need to put in effort and plenty of work. This tool is way more efficient than many other sales and marketing tools out there, but you will also have to strategise logically and follow the social media rules to see the much talked about success. You will soon realize that all the noise about Twitter and social media is justified.
