Using Google Ads New Budget Tool

Google has launched a new tool to manage your budget in Google Ads.

But first, we need to explain the different planning tools from Google. Google Ads has three different tools for planners:

  1. Display Planner
  2. Keyword Planner
  3. Budget Planner.

These planners are usually used by Google Ads specialists to optimize your campaigns.  


Keyword Planner

The Keyword Planner is one of the most effective and reliable Google Ads tool to help your Search campaign. The Keyword Planner helps you find new keywords and make a correct setup. These keywords can be relevant for your landing page, products, services or even a whole product class.

Display Planner

Display Planner is also known as ”Show Planner”. The Display Planner is a free tool to use for your Network and Search campaigns. You can use the Display Planner to develop a new campaign. With the Display Planner, you can expand your reach of campaigns, find new websites, mobile applications, and video channels to show on your ads.

Budget Planner 

This is Google’s new Budget Planner forecasting tool. After you set up your campaign and your target (CPC, clicks, conversion or CPA), you need to enter a target amount. When deciding this, you can choose between the previous period or the same time from last year. After you have set the parameters, Google will generate a budget plan.

The forecast will now be shown in the chart. It will set a gray line on how Google thinks your campaign is expected to perform. There is also a blue line in your chart. This indicates how the changes in your spend will impact the goal of the campaign.

How these forecasts are calculated?


  • They’re calculated using recent campaign traffic. This is data and history from auctions and is updated every 24-48 hours.
  • Your business type with the main focus on the season. So, seasonal traffic towards your website.
  • The closer the forecast is to the start date of your campaign, the more accurate the forecast is. So if you are planning in the future, make sure you check out the forecast at least once before launching.

The comparison tab

As you plan your campaigns, your can use the comparison tab to view the metrics that are being measured. You can compare the forecast against past performances.

You can find these forecast tool at the button ‘’Budget Planner’’.

This is in your Google Ads account. It seems that Google is still rolling out this feature, so not everybody has access to it yet. So don’t worry if you don’t have access. It will appear eventually as Google completes its new feature.
